From the post, it seems like it was a 1972 thing only.

I had a set on a 72 C10. Didn't know what they were for. They eventually were removed when they got in they way. Never saw one since.

My '72 came with them also. I always assumed that all of these trucks were equipped with them. On my truck, they are used as spark plug wire looms, which I always assumed was the intended purpose of the brackets. There are two holes in the top of the bracket which you put your spark plug wires through (you have to pull the boot off first) for the #1 and #3 (or 2 and 4) cylinders in order to keep them from resting on the manifold and burning up. They really work pretty good. I thought that this was the main purpose of these brackets, but maybe some expert on the board knows for sure. It just seems kind of farfetched to me that they help keep the manifolds cool. If they were designed to prevent cracked manifolds, they don't work worth a darn, because I have had 3 cracked manifolds on my truck. Also, they make changing sparkplugs and manifolds a real pain. I wouldn't waste any money buying them.

I guess you learn something new every day. I have never seen one of these. I guess that the idea behind these is pretty good, but it is the movement of the rest of the exhaust manifold, and the fact that they are paper thin, that the passenger side always cracks. I guess it probably wouldnt hurt to have a set just to be unique and original. THis is kinda like heat shields, and other auxhilary widgets that help these things run better.
