Hello. I have an 86 GMC shortbed, and got this about 3 years ago. It was from Texas and was rust free.
I have restored it to stock looking, but added Billet Wheels, lowered it just about 2". Plan on street /strip and at this time has a ZZ430 small block, Turbo 400, and 3.73 Auburn rear. Currently doing a B&M Mega Truck shifter and may need 4.11 gears. Also have a Billet grill to go on,etc. Looking forward to getting some good info on this site. Thanks. |

Welcome to the board from MN.
Sounds like a cool truck, can't wait to see some pictures. BTW, where are you from? It is always nice to see a location below your screen name...helps us answer questions from time to time as well.

O/K, have added location and other details.
Will take pics of my GMC soon, weather bad here. My truck is Fathom Blue, same as 1970 SS 396 Chevelle (L78) I had. Stock dark blue interior, bench seat, but all redone, just like 1986 all over again. Thanks again. |

Thanks all. I have updated my signature and pics will come, I hope soon. B&M shifter going in next week and in a few weeks the MSD & gears.
Soon after I have March pulley system with Billet alternator & power steering pump in the box on the shelf, ready to go. Then Billet steering wheel & dash bezel planned. Anyone have any thoughts on a nice Billet wheel, I would like a traditional 3 spoke with black leather wrap and a nice GMC horn ring. Hope to have all done by spring, and then to Enghishtown Raceway Park to see if this thing really runs. This should keep me busy for a while. Thanks.

Welcome to the board. Sounds like a very nice project you have going. As for the steering wheel, what about one like this one. It's a Grant Signature wheel.

Welcome tot eh board. SOunds like a great truck you've got to work with. Especially with a ZZ430 you can really build around that powerplant. Makes me wish my ZZ4 was a ZZ430.

I do have a black billet grill in the box, but am not sure now how this will look with my dark blue body and then do I leave the headlight bezels silver color? I thought the orange GMC emblem would look good against the black grill, but.............. Anyone have any pics or thoughts on this combination or should I just get a polished billet grill instead? Thanks.

It looks like I am doing many things on my truck similar to yours, B&M Mega shifter, I just ordered a Grant wheel and the billet dash bezel, etc. And, I do plan on installing my March pulley system, which also includes their billet (100 amp) alternator, which brings me to another question; Will the 100 amp alternator be enough juice when I add the electric radiator fans in place of the stock fan?, and note that I have disconnected the A/C system. Appreciate any thoughts. By the way I will be in N.C. in May for race week, and I just love N.C., also have some relatives there. My wife and I have been going to the May and October races for many years. Thanks again.

If it were me, and according to what sound system you have, I would go for a 140 amp or so alternator. If you have some high amperage fans, they draw a lot of power and will need it. No such thing as going too big, but it can be too small. What fans are you planning on using?
Yeah, NC is a great state to live in. Charlotte gets crazy when the races are going on. I live about 45 miles west of Charlotte. Don't go the races. I did go to the first night Winston though. Loved it. Where does your relatives live?
