a c-clip truck on the side of the hiway, resting on the brake backing plate.. wheel w/ axleshaft still bolted to it several yards behind the truck. you should have seen the look on the guys face as he sat there waiting for help to arrive. lucky nobody was hurt. i vaguely remember seeing something similar years & years ago but cant be sure.. This is more or less the 1st time Ive seen it with my own eyes. But Ive heard a lot of stories.. hang on Im going to go give my full-floater a hug mike |

Yikes ! ! !
Doesn't sound like a good time. You're right, it is fortunate no one was hurt.

I used to help a guy with his dirt track car. They had to run stock 12 bolt rearends. They could upgrade to better axles if wanted. Hid Dad was backing him and told him to buy some good axles for it. He said nope. It's fine. Well, the whole season, he had been dominating at the track. He had done stuff to his car that the others didn't have, like 4 wheel disc brakes, brake adjusters, etc. He was killing them in the turns. Rear drum brakes make for a automatic push in a race car. The stuff he had wasn't illegal, but the others didn't think of it.
Anyway, after his Dad telling him this, he goes the race Saturday night, and was leading the race. Yep, you guessed it. A axle broke, he destroyed the car. It took him a month to get it back in decent shape to race. By this time, everyone had the same stuff. They had seen what he had when he landed on the top in the wreck. After this, he polled the track to let them run 9" Ford rears. No more wrecks from broken axles, but it was too late. His domination had ended. If you want to see a dirt track car get totally destroyed, let the axle break in a non floater rear. When the wheel comes off, it's not a pretty sight.
