Attn Rage'nrat: Tach in dash ??s

I got a Sunpro tach to put in my dash cluster like you did with yours, and it looks like I have to cut the back metal piece to let teh tach fit in all the way. It also looks like it'll push the circuit board piece out some. Did this give you any problem, or did the tach slide right in? If it did give you a problem, how did you fix it? See circled area in picture below, thanks,

-Jay

I'm not Rage 'n Rat, but i did the same thing.

I had to cut the grey metal piece with a dremel, and there was enough slack in the printed circuit that it simply went over the back of the tach with no problems. It was a $40 Sunpro tach, too.

Good luck!

Yup.....sliced everything with cutoff wheels on a dremel. Smells kinda bad with the burning plastic, lol. I would imagine a big hole saw might work a little better.

Pretty easy modification...and looks much better than the tach held onto the steering wheel with a hose clamp, lol.

i just trimmed the rear of the tach.....and cut the len's with the cut off tool ....
but both ways will work....
i also installed a 3/8" wide vent ball felt around the cluster hole to hold it firm.....leave some wire inside the dash so you can pull the tach out......to change the buld if needed....
i just drilled a hole into the back metal for the wire's

Hmmm, I guess my conversion was kinda butch.
I massaged the back panel with a 5 pound hammer for rear clearance and chopped up the lens with a pair of dikes. (Or do we call them women in comefortable shoes now to be P.C.?)

i hooked white wire up to a wire going to a light somewhere or you can plug it in the slow in the fuse box for lights... power, you could run off of another wire or run off of the ign unfused if you put an inline fuse. or if your radio power slot isnt being used there ya go. green goes to negative side of coil or tach side of hei distrib. ground i hooked up in wrong place so i need to find out where everybody else hooked it up.
