Fuel filter

Anyone ever use those spectre clear glass filters they sell at autozone? Also there is there much pressure in the line befor the pump?

Thanks

I used a Mr. Gasket clear glass filter once. Never cared much for it and besides, the cheap a$$ rubber hose would flake off and plug up my carb. After seeing the tiny pieces of rubber and finally figuring out where they came from, I replaced it.

I had one on a previous vehicle with a Holley Carb. After about six months with that filter on the new carb, the needle and seats would stick open causing the carb to flood etc. I threw the clear filter away and got a cheap plastic wix (about 2 in in diameter, all plastic, no 'chrome' ends like the one you mentioned) fuel filter. I could still see if there was fuel in it, but I never had another problem (after driving that car daily for six years...).

I wouldn't use on of those filters no matter what.

On another note, my somewhat clear plastic wix filter allowed me to diagnose a bad fuel pump on my 84 when I was driving from Idaho to Florida when I first joined the Navy, so I'm sold on them...

The one in the middle of this picture is the one I like, I don't use Fram filters, but the wix or AC Delco equivalent.

The one I used was like the one Joe posted a pic of. The rubber was flaky, for lack of a better word, on the inside. It would let tiny bits of rubber flack off and get to the carb or plug the filter itself. I would take it apart and clean it out and this would help sometimes. Sometimes I had to take the airhorn off and clean out the bowl. After about a week of two of this, I trashed it. I also used a Fram filter like Joe's pic. It worked well. Now, I have a high dollar Russel inline filter with AN fittings. No problems so far.

I just flat out would not put any glass filter on my truck, period. Thinking back, it don't make much sense to use a glass filter. The glass in them cheap things breaks real easy.

Sure could. The first time it did this, I didn't know where to start. The filter was fairly new, maybe a week or two old. I took the carb off and btw, had been recently rebuilt too. Took it apart to find the tiny bits laying in the bottom of the bowl. Cleaned it out put it back on but this didn't fix it. Had to clean out the filter too. After this happening twice, I trashed it. It may have been OK with better hoses, but I didn't like the way it plugged up the filter with these tiny, tiny, bits of rubber. I figured it would do the same thing with tiny bits of dirt too. It was filtering the dirt, but not letting any fuel through.
