HEI keeps burning coil wires???
My step son has a 86 chevy truck, has a 305 in it. He replaced the coil about 6 months ago. Truck started running bad again, he looked at the coil, and the wires ( small one's under plastic cover ) is burned up again. What is causeing this?. This is not the ignition wire going to coil, it is the ones that come molded to the coil when you buy the coil.

I know that having too much gap on the plugs can do this, but it is not a common result.

Sounds like he is missing the ground strap on coil.

I agree with Jhow, find an old dist and take that ground strap off. Some new HEI systems come without them and around here at least, AutoZone, Advance or Napa doesn't like to carry them.
