1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton carb
went to Orielly's autoparts to get new carb for my truck and they tell me the 3/4 ton takes differnt carb than 1/2 ton.Is there that much difference between the 2? The 3/4 ton carb is $45 more than 1/2 ton.I need the truck to have better mileage but I don't want the darn thing to lug down the highway short of power.Any suggestions?Don't have actual model #'s.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. The payload of the truck has nothing to do with the carb. A Chevy 350 is a Chevy 350 regardless of the truck it's in. There is no difference in the intake manifold. Just buy the one for the 1/2 ton or better yet go to a parts store where you might find someone that knows what the hell they are talking about. Check out the Edelbrock 1406. It fits a small block Chevy and works great.

Scott is right, there should be no difference between the two.
I've heard nothing but good things about the Edelbrock 1406...if I'd heard them three years ago, I might have saved the money and gotten one of those instead of a 1901 (which I'm also completely satisfied with! just EXPENSIVE, that's all.). ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/

did they ask which transmission ? that would matter alot more than what series of truck, emissions equipment level of 20 series trucks was lower than 10 series trucks, that could be why the difference actually, if you place two or more Q jets together, there are differences even visually, they liked to mess with casting changes often, also it matters if you have power brakes or not, as some carbs do not have means of connecting booster feed hose to back of base of carb, we just think its dumb because we are those who would just swap any other carb of any other year or application in an engine and make it work, whereas the parts stores look up by application exactly, because there actually are differences, even as minor as they may be.,

Fast the carb that was on my truck was the more expepensive one . The price difference is 109 vs 150. Is the difference just in cfm's. I never realized they used diffent carbs depending on 1/2 or 3/4 ton, as a 350 is a 350.What does a 1406 go for?
