65 engine id?

Ok, a few of you may know me.. most probably not. I run around over on the 73-87 side, but i have a question for my dad. He bought a 65 longbed 4x4, muncie 4 speed, 3:73s, posi in the rear. he thought he had a 327, but was told they didnt start in trucks until 66. So he may have a 283, but he wants to know for sure. Here are the only codes he could find on the block.

18W236503 VI026MS CU

i tried looking it up but it didnt match anything on the site i was using. any help would be grateful.

The first means nothing to me, but the second number V1026MS says that it is a 350 made in Flint Mi. Oct 26th. If you want the year you'll have to look behind the left head for the block ID #.

Prerunner1982,
I once owned a '66 C20 Custom Camper from Michigan. still wish I did..... anyway, I was told and always believed that '66 WAS the first year for the 327 High Torque engine in the truck line. hth,
Roy
