Who carries a decent bug shield that fits our trucks? I used to buy from Whitney, but they don't stoop to carrying stuff for vehicles that old anymore. Too much money to be made in stereos for ricers, I guess.

There is no such thing as a decent bugshield on our trucks. In my humble opinion they look goofy on a classic truck.

The PO had one on mine, which when removed (prior to my getting it) left six big ugly holes in my grill surround. When I've seen them, they are simply large (like 5-6") straight up and not very attractive. If you have some major bugs to protect your truck from, there's got to be a better way, IMHO.

I think slammed trucks are ugly too but I don't make it a point to state that in every post that inquires about bags, c-notches, adjustable tracking arms, etc.

To address the question, I have not seen one sold new that is contoured for the hood angles, but that does not mean they aren't. A user, I believe 1969GMC, had a used one he was selling a while back. It was contoured properly.

LMC sells them. THey look ok if you like bug shields.

I took one off of my truck that the p/o had installed. It is in good shape, has 2 large Allis Chalmers stickers on it (bet ya cant tell where my old farm truck is from, eh :p ), and it has a lot of little superficial cracks in it. It has a bend in the middle and is contoured to the leading edge of the hood. I had it on the parts board for free, but I won't ship it. If you have any relatives in Ohio that could hold it for you, or if you are coming to OH anytime soon, its yours.

A clear one would be better than a tinted one, again in my opinion. Still would be hard (for me) to drill the holes in the grill for the installation. If there were such a thing as a contoured one, then I'd support that over the eighties style flat ones. Since I've never seen a contoured one on one of our trucks, judgement and comments are with-held!

Just looked in LMC and the ones that sell seem to be pretty well contoured with the hood. Didn't look to bad. Also stated that NO drilling was required for install.

Perhaps on the newer ones...but mine had been attached to the hood with screws, not the grille. They attached to the underside "framework" of the hood, so it doesn't leave any nasty visible holes. It is a Deflecta-Shield brand, I am guessing its pretty old.

There is a company called invinca shield that sells a clear urethane film that you stick to your hood. I am not describing it very well, so check out the site. I am going to use it on my truck when the time comes.

With the way the hood is shaped on my 72 I figured I didn't need one. I mean seriously, the bug shield is a 90 degree angle and the hood is an 85 degree angle. Not like the bug shield is going to help much more. It seems like only the bigger bugs hit my windshield anyway.

I run bug shields on a couple of my trucks.
I don't want them so much for the bugs as the rock chips and debris always flying into the front of my truck.
I have had to replace a couple of them also from taking a hit and cracking. I don't think they are the prettiest thing but they do protect the front edge of the hood and cheaper to replace shield than fix dents and repaint hood!

If I drove by and saw all those trucks in a row my car would come to a screeching halt and you'd look out your window and see me skipping towards them.

Well, I'd have that hazy "I'm in love" vision, so I probably would let them slide. And about the checkbook, I'd have to disagree. I feel guilty driving the nice truck that I do and knowing that I didn't do any of the work to it. If I only had 10 grand......
