the 5000lb sounds more like gross weight rating. this is the max weight of the vehicle + occupants + payload. this would give about 1000lbs max load (approx 1/2 ton) plus the weight of the vehicle (approx 3600lbs)
most large city dumps have scales, if the truck is drivable they'll weigh it. if its apart you could load it on a trailor, weight trailor and truck then subtract weight of trailor |

My C20 was tipping the scales at 4750 right after I took the camper off of it. Besides it being a C20 (might account for 150-175 more pounds than C10), there was a spare tire under the bed, heavy duty diamond plate step bumper on the rear, has steel wagon wheels, all stock cast iron components on engine, A/C, etc, and it had no tailgate.
I took out the spare tire, and I changed the rear bumper to a regular one. Will be interesting to see how much it weighs when I put some new alloy wheels on it, a tailgate, an aluminum intake, and maybe aluminum heads in the future. |

I really hate these posts. I end up in the garage wondering what else I can do to make it lighter.

My 69K10 w/ spare tire, me, and 1/2 tank of gas rolls across at 4200 lbs. most of being on the front end... I've got the front/rear split, just don't remember the numbers off the top of my head.

NADA Used Car Guide lists my 1971 GMC, 1/2 ton, LWB @ 3665 lbs. This is "established shipping weight less gas oil, etc. "

You guys can stop anytime. you're giving me nightmares. 3665lbs on a long step w/ 6 cylinder? Crap. I guess I need to start making parts out of carbon fiber now.

I don't understand how some of these figures could be so low... I don't think my C20 would be over 1000 pounds heavier than a longbed C10.

the problem is most scales arent accurate especiallly the one at the dump. they never have them calibrated its not like a truck stop scale.or an official scale. that would be the true way to find out or to weigh it at the track

those scales dont have to be accurate on the weight just show the difference coming and going so it could read 100lbs heavy and wouldnt mean a thing to them cuz the numbers they are worried about will still be right. because if ya come in loaded weighing say 5000 the scale is 100 heavy and you leave at 4000 you were actually 4900 and leaving at 3900 still a 1000 pound difference but the numbers arent right
