Were these optional?

Were these hat or coat hooks optional or were thay standard issue on every truck that rolled off the assembly line?

There were two on a 72 gmc that we hacked up, one on each side at that same spot. There's two in my 70 but they're above the back window, along with the gun rack. I'm not sure if the coat hangers were factory installed in mine or not. I think the gun rack was a dealer add on or something, I've seen a lot of gunracks like mine in other trucks.

My plain jane 67 chevy had one of them. I filled in the holes when I redid the truck and since I wish I hadn't because I could have used it numerous times since. LOL

I didnt have any of those in my truck, but I had 2 or 3 of the metal coathooks above the rear window, one right behind the drivers head it was the first thing I took off of the truck.

I've got one in my '71 Custom/10. It appears to be factory installed.

Ya know, I have need of a gun rack... Could you post a pic of the mounting on your gun rack?

Sure, I'll get some pics hopefully tomorrow. Still gotta get the scanner hooked back up to the computer. I'm just guessing that they were factory installed, I've seen 'em in other 67-72 trucks before. It works great, from double barrels to pellet guns.

Thanks. I've been looking. Just dont know where I can get away with drilling. I saw some pretty neat suction cup ones in the Cabelas catalog. Did'nt know how they hold up. (pun not intended) Would like something a little more permanent that screams REDNECK!!!

I took some pics and need to get the film developed now. When I get 'em scanned I'll let you know. I went out and took one off and they're held on with screws that are about 1 inch long, with probably 1/4 inch threads. They're socket head screws, so it's easier to get the bottom ones on because the way they're mounted you can't get a screwdriver in behind the seat, you gotta use a box end or a really small 1/4 drive ratchet. It'll be easier to understand when I upload the pics.

I'm still trying to figure out why you would hang a gun from the coat hook.

Cause the cops get irritated when you hang it on the rear-view mirror!

I wonder what would happen if you got rearended with a gun on the gun rack? If it was me I might just jump out with the gun a use it on the person that just hit me.

if you get rearended, just reach up in the air and catch the gun as it sails overhead - jst in case you need it.

Gun would never leave the truck unless I "was in fear for my life". Wich is the way it should be. I garauntee you, if everyone knew everyone had a gun in their truck the world would be a nicer place. People would suddenly find their manners and their turn signals, no one would ever get cut off, no one would ever tailgate. Best of all they would stop flippin everyone off and just wave.
