Standard trans?

What is a good manual shift trans for a 307 or 350 engine? Also how hard is it to swap from an auto trans to manual shift trans? The truck was originally 3 on tree but prev. owner swapped to turbo 350 auto so the clutch pedal is already in the truck. I am considering manual with floor shift. Any Thoughts?

I am in the process of swapping the old 4-speed out for A TH400. My preference. I like the idea of putting A newer 5-speed from A later model truck. I dont know what is involved. (crossmember attatchment). Good luck!

Do a search on t-5 If you want a five-speed. The later model trucks 5-speed has an electric spedometer Which I hear can be pricy to convert

I will be taking the turbo 400 out of my 3/4 ton one of these days -if I can ever find the time- and putting in a Muncie sm-465 4 speed. It has a good reputation, tough as nails they say. You will probably need a drive shaft from a standard trans truck, a manual trans crossmember, clutch pedal and all linkage (z-bar, etc.) Also, you will need to drill and tap a threaded hole for the z-bar into the block (drivers side) unless it's there already. And I beleive the neutral safety wiring will have to be changed to a manual set-up. The low-hump trans cover will have to be changed to a high hump. Can't think of anything else. Best of luck.

I'd recommend against the T5. They are a light duty transmission & will not stand up 350. I wouldn't put a T5 behind anything bigger than a 6 cyl.

I swapped out a 3 spd Saginaw with a 4 spd Muncie. Easy swap with no problems. The engine was originally a 307 thap was pulled and a 350 installed.

If you have $3000 burning a hole in your pocket, search on Richmond 6-speed.

What corssmemeber did you use? I just purchased a M21 and need to get a crossmember for the tail. It currently has the 3spd in it. Thanks in advance.

I want the T56 bad, but it'll have to wait for awhile.
