fuel sending unit uninstall question

How do I get the old unit out? There are a few tabs that look like they need to be pushed in or out to unluck the sender, but they're old and I don't want to break anything. Any hints? I've run the search and haven't found any answers.

Are you working on a behind the seat tank? Probably it has a ring that you need to rotate counterclockwise? Those tabs you see,- Use a punch/old screwdriver and tap Not To Hard -the ring will rotate and move tabs into open slots where it will spring free. The sender will lift right out. You do need a new O Ring gasket to put back together. Hope i explained that well enough. Other tanks/not just behind the seat units fit together the same way. -Steve

Unscrew the threaded nut first on the fuel line. Use a block of wood to tap the lock ring loose. You have to tilt it out slowly.

Well, there are 2 tabs that fit into slots on the outside of the main ring. Do I need to do anything with these?

Well, I gave it a try and got that bugger out. Thanks for the help. Pushing the tangs looked too easy, and I didn't want to screw this thing up. Thanks.
