My '70 GMC Sierra lwb bed # 68054 and was built in St. Louis ( Mar '70) and sold here to. The dealership name, where the emblem was, is still imprinted there on the tail gate, and was sold at a dealership in St. Charles, Mo. at some point. (not sure if thats originally sold or later)
I believe the productions numbers atleast for the GMCs started at 50,001 or was this only at certain plants? My engine, 402, was built in Tonawanda Feb 1970. One head built in Feb '70 the other in Mar '70 according to the stampings.

My 70 Blazer came from St. Louis. Sequence #49512. One of approx 11,527 Blazers built that year. Original Paint, NO exterior rust, looks like someone spent the money on undercoating many moons ago. Anyone know a site where I can find out how many 250/3 speed 4WD were made that year. Everyone keeps telling me its rare.

Great to see a lot of you have information about what dealership your truck came from. Of the top of my head I can't remember this for my truck (other then the used car lot in the middle). My 71' was solid white with a blue trim package from the factory. I'm assuming one of the POs or the used car dealership in the middle attempted to make it two tone. They just sprayed blue in the middle over the factory paint and let it go. When I got the truck from the second owner, the blue had bleached away from the factory paint (which is harder the crap to get off).

My GMC was made in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. I had a neat experience a couple of years ago when I took a tour group through the GM truck plant in Oshawa. Our tour guide was a retired plant worker. He told me he started working at the plant in, get this, 1956. Just imagine all the automotive history this guy saw first hand. There's a really good chance that he worked on my truck. Cool.

'68 C/10 Stepside 292 L6 sm465: Fremont.
'67 K/10 Sub 454 V8(not stock) th350/np205 (project): Fremont. '71 GMC Jimmy K/5 350 V8 sm465/np204: St Louis. '72 K/5 rolling frame (parts truck-project): Flint. And BTW I was born in Tarrytown, NY! Glad to hear Fremont is now a mall. I had heard it became a Toyota plant, and the thought of rice grinders popping out of the same plant that built those rigs turned my guts.

Here is some clarification on the Fremont plant:
The plant is still operating, but it produces Corollas, Tacomas (I like how they have the word coma in the name!!), and Vibes. It is a 50/50 joint venture between GM and Toyota: http://www.nummi.com/vehicles.html http://www.hoovers.com/nummi/--ID__4...actsheet.xhtml The plant that is now a mall use to be a Ford plant and it is actually located in Milpitas. http://www.greatmallbayarea.com/ As for the day of the week the car was made, my dad worked at the Ford plant for a summer and he said you never wanted a car built on Friday because guys would pound a couple beers during lunch to get ready for the weekend. |
