crate engine....
I'm debating on getting that 249 hp 350 from Scoggin Dickey... Has anyone got anything bad to say? The way i figure it I can get a new GM motor for $1620 after freight...does this have to be installed by a shop to get the warranty or can I install it myself? I can go the rebuilt route... but I'd only save around 300 bucks due to the fact that I have no core and the extended warranty on that is 200 bucks... and personally I would rather have the new one...

i just bought one.
dont buy it from scoggin dickey. i bought it from a local chevy dealership and it was $1627 out the door, that included the $100 core fee they now charge, so once i returned my old busted engine it was really $1520 out the door. the warranty is 3yrs 50k no matter who installs the motor. supposedly you can take the truck to ANY chevy dealership and they will cover the labor and parts to fix it, however if its due to a flawed install they wont cover it, so i guess make sure who ever puts it in knows what theyre doing. according to chevy high perf. mag they got 265hp out of the engine with some headers, performance mufflers and edelbrock intake. ive only got 200miles on mine, not broken in yet but the engine sounds great through my headers and flowmasters and it feels like it has plenty of power. |

I am going with the ZZ4, I know it is a lot more money, double what the stock one is, but the increase in power is awesome. I am still saving my money so I can put one in my 4X4.

I bought my crate motor from scoggins dickie. My local dealer wanted $3000 so it was a lot cheaper thru them. I ran it about 6000 miles with no problem whatsoever. I wanted more hp so I
added Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, Performer RPM intake, 750 holley doublepumper, Comp 280 Magnum cam, 1.5 roller rockers, headers and flowmasters. So far about 300 miles with no problems. I have floored the gas a few tomes and i am well pleased. I have the truck in the paint shop now. I want to see what it'll run in the 1/4 mile when i get it out. Good Luck, Guy

I personally prefer to build exactly what I want rather than buy something less, and putting more money into it later.

Check your local dealer, they can get prices almost the same as SD or others. I checked several local GM dealers and found one at exactly the same price and had them install it. I'm glad I did, if anything went wrong, there's one place to go.
Consider a little more HP when you buy it. I got one of the low-buck crates and wish that I'd either done something to it or payed more for a higer HP one. My 2 cents

well...
I guess I should've said this first.... I plan on putting this engine in my Jimmy... I don't want to mess with a bunch of horsepower... I've had that in there... and burning super unleaded in that hog sucks...I have my put together 350 in my 71... I took it out of the Jimmy...
The same motor that SD sells for 1495.00 + 100 core + 80 for shipping is 1350 at Pace.... I wonder what shipping is from there.. I'm calling them Monday |
