spreadbore holley 4165 or quadrajet carb???

well guy's.....i stumbled across a 6210 holley carb....which is a 650 double pumper ..with the spread bore flange...(fit's on the stock intake)
WHICH IS VERY COOL,,,work's with the devorced choke set.....
got this baby for 30.00....
this carb came on h.p. engines on 70-71 chevy cars.....327 350 396 404


OR


should i use the stock quadrajet carb......?????

anybody had experance with this carb......

also found a 66 quadrajet carb......that might be woth some bucks/???

the first two are the holley4165


the last is the quadrajet........what do ya'll think????

I don't have a lot of experience with Q-jets but can tell you the Holley's aren't all that great. Granted, I ran my 650 double pumper spread bore for a lot of years but that was because I couldn't afford anything else. Plan on rebuilding it every 2 years. Seems like every 2 years to the day it would start leaking again. As of today an Edelbrock 1407 has been installed. Picked up for $50, rebuilt it and added an electric choke. Idles great without even messing with it.

Holley spreadbores are the pits. I used to build Holleys to fund my drag racing habit. I couldn't give away a 4165 holley. I finally just started stripping them for any usable parts and junking the remains.

Holleys are great, if you are racing.....& need to play the tune thing. The old Q jet is a little "stinky" to tune, but if you get it, it flat rocks,& will give some milage to boot! the edelbrock AFB.....i have a 1407 on my 383....its ok, but im thinking "fuelie" 69L

Hey Mark good to see the choke coil and the cover worked out for you. I'd keep the Qjet, there's nothing wrong with 'em. I don't know about the Holley though, I've only ran square bore carbs with adapters on a spreadbore manifold.

I have had the Holley debate before, As stated above, Holley's were designed for Drag Racing..BUT, I have very good performance reliability from their spread bore designs. I have a 650 that's been around for LOTS of years..( It lays under the bench in my used carbs box now)
If you have a Performance engine, The Spread Bore is one heck of a performance tuneable Carb.

I have never been a Q-Jet fan.....We didn't call them Quadrajunk for nothing....

QUADRAJUNK is EXACTLY RIGHT !!! i despise quadrajets with a passion. i LOVE holleys but i will never use one on a street driven vehcle again. i have had VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY good luck wth the CARTER AFB (the eldelbrock is the EXACT same carb)
