Who has done the Blazer gas tank swap
I think I'm going to order a gas tank to put under the bed here pretty soon, anyone have a tips on how to make it a smooth procedure. What else am I going to need to go out and buy. Thanks for the tips and info in advance.

Make sure who ever you order the tank from they send you the right sending unit. I learned the hard way (had the truck painted and all together, hooked up the sending unit was the wrong one, had to pull the bed off and install the right one) my how we learn from our stupid mistakes. thanks

I've seen pics posted here showing the filler hidden behind a flipout tail light, and also one with a flush mount filler in the wood bed floor. ( I think the trim piece was from a boat )
Both were great ideas. ------------------ 72 Blazer CST X 2 |

If anyone has any pic's that would be cool. I have a stepside but pics of a fleetside would be cool too.

I've got a stepside with an aftermarket tank under the bed... it's got the filler in the bed floor, but it could be easily modified to fill from the stepside fender. I have a pic of the installation on my site if you wanna have a look.... the link is in my signature.

Look up tennman on the members list and ask him where his tank setup is posted. He put it behind the sidemarker light and has gracefully documented the way he did it in photos to share.

71 SWB. I installed my marine filler on the back side of the drivers side wheel tub. Works well and doesn't interfear with hauling.

I would also like to see step by step instructions on how this was done, what materials you need and how much it costs to do this. If I am going to be doing all this work on my 72, it would sure be nice to have a bit more cab room.

I have done this, but the tank I found at the wrecker is only 12 gallons,so I fill a lot. Good thing I dont do much freeway, I'd be at a gas station every 4 hours. GMCPAUL has a pretty good price on a poly tank, or a full kit if you need it. On the stepside, the gas filler is easy to mount on the fender. I took the filler from a blazer, along with the sending unit, got the sraps made at MR Gas tank, and the tank recoated. Drilled 4 holes in the crossmembers, and put the tank up. Easy really. If you want pics, email me, I will take and scan in and mail to you. Also bought a shelf unit from jc whitney to fit behind the seat, happy with that too .
