mudding n00b

hey yall, I think I've got the bug, I found a little place behind the airport that looks like it might be fun to play around in, mudding is something I've always wanted to do but have never actually done.

I was going to take my 03 Z71 but my dad and I mutually agree his 86 k10 would be a better choice since its already old heh, and is probablly tougher.

I'm going with a friend in a 1990ish jeep cherokee on 31" AT Kos problem is.. we're planning to go tomorrow afternoon, and its raining today. Is all that GA clay gonna be too muddy to make it? my dads truck is an 86 k10 lwb fleet, 33x12.5 dunlop? something.. at tires, 305/700R4 (I think its 700r4 anyway) no lift that I'm aware of, webought it on the 33s, it fits em pretty well, they rub on occasion, but rarely.

I guess, with all this laid out, what other info can you give to an offroading n00b that really knows very little about this? the kinda stuf we'd be doing is things like shallow waters, general loose mud, no rocks or narrrow trails.. this is GA.. and this place is GA red clay top to bottom.

invest in some good recovery gear... straps, chains, highlift jack.. etc..

Take at least 2 trucks. If 1 gets stuck you at least have a way home...

Whose land is it? Will anyone care that you are messing up their land? It usually makes people mad when trucks "find" a good wheelin' spot.

oh yea people are in there all the time, this is one of the places recommended by the csraoffroad club, I found the directions on their website, there were a few guys in there when I was there but I didn't go in, its probablly public land cos its right next to a park and a boat ramp.

whatever you do don't use a chain or a strap with hooks on it, we don't need to be reading how you were killed by a loose chain or tow hook hitting you in the head.

But anyway, make sure you have a way to get out, my brother made that mistake one time and it took us a few hours to get him out, my dad had to come by where I work to get my truck because it was the only thing capable of getting him out.

needless to say my brother had to wash my truck afterwards lol.

The poor guy on A/T tires might have some trouble, their not much good for mud, and depending on how deep it is then the K10 might do alright depending on the tires.

Good luck on cleaning everything up too, I HATE cleaning mud out from all under my truck, takes me hours and eats up all my seals.

pressure washer the truck hasn't been washed in years, it has mold on the hood.

ok so today we found out the tranny fluid was gone, fixed that with some valvoline max life, new windsheild whipers, I do have a tow strap (it has hooks but I can probablly take em off) and a fresh battery, tire pressures up to where it should be, and the trucks driving alright in 2 and 4wd

its on dayton wilderness tires, they look like a very mild BFG AT, we've been through some construction site clay with em before, it never stopped rolling. This place is pretty compacted down, I'm afraid after all the rain we've had it may be an overflow for the river, and tahts why nothings there or no one cares what is done there heh, so we might get there and find out it was a wasted trip.

anyone in augusta? heh both me and my friend are relativley inexperienced in this, although hes been up to some place in NC where he did some trail riding with other jeep enthusiasts with his cherokee, cost him a nasty dent in the passenger door but otherwise came out unscathed heh.
