Yeah And The Funny Part Is That The OIl Co's. Make Gear Oil,motor Oil, Etc. And Then What's Let Over And The By Products Of The Refineing To Get The Motor Oil Ect. Is What They Make Gas Out Of. Funny They Make Gas Out Of The Cheapest Part Of The Barrell Of Oil Yet It Is The Most Exspensive Thing That Will Come Out Of That Barrell. Gas Pain
Energy cost is a function of supply and demand as we all know. You can thank the Chinese Gov't for jump starting their economy and increasing the world-wide demand for energy resources. Though the current Administration may be clueless and/or have hidden agendas, I can't blame this wholly on them. It's been a long time coming and it's never going to get better until alternative sources of energy are exploited to reduce the demand for fossil fuels. Hybrid vehicles and combination fuel engines are part of the solution. Got Previa?

that is true, don't you find it funny that we have forktruck (electric) that wieght 7500# and can carry 5000# and run for 10 hours a day(constant use except for 1/2 hour lunch break) seven days a week and one charge everyday. i find it hard to believe that we can only make an electric car that will only go 50 miles on a charge. i know logistics plays a part in this (charging stations) but i can't see why they couldn't us gear ratios to make the electric cars preform better. the batteries are able to keep up its the car itself that need improvements i just think the oil co's. have way to much riding on ,and too much money to play with to ever get the fully electrics to where they are practical for everyday use. there is not any money in a car that needs eletricity not gasoline, not enought power consumption to make them (oil co) any money, or at least no where near what they make now. that's the whole problem with this adminstration and the previous ones as well is that they are not willing to put and ultimatum on the auto manufactors making them produce a better electric car. just a little more of my .02 Randy

The problem is that who wants to pay that much money for so little vehicle? The only way anyone will ever start buying hybrids is if gas gets to $10 a gallon and even then youll see people buying the biggest suv they can fit in their garage. I dont think youll find any greater consentration of gas gussling vehicles outside of TX. Here everyone has a truck or SUV but if you look at whose driving them it isnt usually the ranchers but reather the soccer moms. Sue a minivan would be a smarter alternative but again ..... who wants to drive a minivan when they can pimp a hummer? Has anyone seen the Honda hybrid commercial that ends by saying "couldnt we all use a little less?" Isnt the foundation of this country built on wanting more? Isnt that what fuels capitalism? Its a catch 22, a giant poo sandwich and were all going to have to take a bite. The sooner the American people wake up and realize that the government isnt acting in their best interests but rather their own the sooner some of us might get off our butts and start slowly changing the way things are done here but whose it going to be? Not me im buiding a gas guzzling, air poluting pre-emissions law truck. |

That's not to say that hybrid vehicles are the solution, just part of a more complex matrix. They will come down in price and up in size/features at the same time energy costs will continue to rise. I think the intersect of these points will be far lower than the $10 per gallon range. Additionally, I think you will find that technology, fueled by capitalism, will fulfill the market for extremely economical, hi-performance vehicles, but the price-tag will reflect the R&D investment. I think a good analogy to this is the so-called "death" of performance vehicles brought on by the oil embargo of the early 70's and the coinciding EPA clean-air act (you do remember the 70's, right? ). Seems to me that niche market is alive and well.

Something to consider in straight electric vehicles is that conventional battery performance dramatically decreases with temperature and that a large electrical draw would be created by the need for electric heat or electric a/c in extreme climates. They might be good year round in parts of Cali but up here I don't think they'd cut it. Hyrids would be the better choice with today's technology.

Gas is $1.89 a gallon here. That sucks because I'm running on half a tank right now.

They are coming out with larger hybrid cars. My brother just bought a hybrid Honda Accord. It's actually the most decked out, fastest Accord that is made. I haven't driven it yet but will the next time I see him. Also Ford is coming out with a Hybrid Escape SUV, so the point is I think hybrids are going to come to more and more mainstream vehicles. Actually the Toyota Prius is supposed to be almost as big as a Camry inside. My problem with it is who the hell can stand looking at it?

$2.09 all over Dayton, Ohio this morning. I heard on the radio oil will hit over $80.00 per barrell this Spring / Summer. That will drive another .22 cents the report said !
Guess I'll park mine and drive the Civic for a while. |
