..i have to agree with you andy those caddy's can pull a house!!!!...well so much for a screwed up plunger ...sorry to hear about unwanted metal but at least now the trucks set up for it so when you find another it will just be a quick swap...

yeah...bummer I'm out of cash and need to find a place to put the truck....right after spending a hundred bucks on title and tags... now I'll have to get a storage unit to put it untill I can scrape up enough cash to get it running.

I don't think there are many motors that will run with no oil pressure...No need to take offense. I did put a at the end of the message. Anyway, a caddy motor in a one ton truck makes sense. Running it down the hiway at 4000 RPM doesn't.

I hope you find another motor soon. I feel you're pain. I went for over ten years without any major mechanical problems. Then within the last month or so, my TH400 took a dive, my tubular lower contol arm failed - causing me to totaly rebuild the front end - stock control arms, dropped spindles, upper lower ball joints, and brothers upper tubular control arm. Then, on top of that the noisy 3.07 differentail finally gave up the ghost - which is the reason why I now have 3.73 posi unit.

I actually wanted to do this stuff eventually, but not all at once! Needless to say, my wife isn't real happy with the truck right now!

sorry...shouldn't have taken the defence position... I've been getting LOTS of shiznit from ppl bout putting a caddy motor in a chevy.

Too bad I could have hooked you up with a good 307 Olds smog motor that I gave away last wknd LOL. I don't think it would even be respectable in a riding lawnmower!

Andy,
Give me a call sometime (pm'd you the #). I have 472/500 blocks setting in the garage right now that I won't use unless things go terribly wrong. Same with the 472 cranks. 2 sets of heads I don't want (120cc) for low compression. Basically, with your money situation and my need for space I'll haul these out to Pittsburgh some weekend if you want to meet up. My mom lives out there anyway so I'll make a weekend out of it.
I'm not looking to make money just help out on the gas to get there. Maybe we find a few cold beers somewhere while we is there in Steeltown.


they will need the basic machine work to put together, but with the right selection of parts I think you can put a fresh 472 together for under the $700 mark. I can check the blocks I have but I'll bet at least one of them won't need bored, so that'll avoid having to bore the block and buy pistons.

Sorry to hear about that caddy motor Andy! I cant believe people actually PM'd you & gave you crap about putting it in your truck! Those engines will run 4ever if taken good care of from the start! I have had several..the 500 we had was in a 74 Coupe...ran like it was new! And man can she giddyup!!!!

Please do not take offense to this question but how do you put a caddy 425 in a Chevy??, I mean how is is mechanically possible?? I know that those damn Caddy big long block engines will run seemingly forever and pull a tree down with all that power, but how did you mate a TH350 Chevy Trans, to a 425 Caddy??, I mean I've seen a lot in my day but I've never heard of that!!! well maybe something like that about 25 years ago when I put a Lincoln 462 in a Corvette!!! now that was a sight it wasen't easy but I used a complete power train that matched the motor from a 69' Lincoln to the frame and I pulled it off (and later that same night I blew the motor, I don't know how many RPM's but it was probably all that motor had, I sill don't know how that motor lived at that speed for all 8 seconds, it was singin' though boy ).
Anyway please lend me some insight on how you did it, cause that's one for the books .

The tranny bolted right up...all I needed to do was toss a TH400 converter in it.
Ither than that, I just removed the front clip, bolted the engine to the tranny which was still mounted in it's proper location, and then marked where I needed to move the towers to.
I got lucky on quite a few things...like the truck had a pontiac 350...so the tranny had the BOP bellhousing...just like the caddy, the fuel line was already routed on the other side, the towers or frame mounts were not the right ones for the truck...but the exact ones for the swap.... ect.

I think places like advance adapters has kits to do this. just like any other Buick,Olds,Pontiac-Chevy swap

Amazing what people can do these days, I commend you for putting that motor in that truck, it is unheard of these days with all these computer controled cars, our love for trucks is of a dieing breed...

I wonder if there is a ridge on top on the 305 in my Monte Calro SS? It only has 225,000 miles on it.

I'm just trying to help a caddy lovin brother out, we've got to stick together and keep doing things differently.

I did also acquire 3 too many engines in a deal I just couldn't walk away from. Rather than scrap them I'd prefer to keep them in circulation. It's either that or find more vehicles to put them into....well getting $50 or so seems like the better financial decision right now.....

anyone needs 472 cubes or parts let me know please....
