Progress on Wootdogs tailgate...
Here's a license recess that I'm doing for Wootdogs truck, I made the box with a piece of sheetmetal, two C-clamps, a 12 inch piece of 1x4 and a jigsaw. I got the straight bends by scoring the metal first with a die grinder. I still have to weld it to the tailgate, I set it in there just for proper fit and to see how it looks.

They are American Racing Baja's (but they are 16x8) ....I know that you wanted 15x10's, I have a set but I'm not sure I'm going to sell them yet. I bought them (the 15x10's) to use on the rebuild of my GMC that we rolled in November but now that I have the 72 dually I'm unsure if I'm going to try and salvage the 70 GMC. If I don't I'll let you know if you think you might be interested. Two of them have brand new (0 miles) 295/50's on them, the other two are still bare.

Kerry will have to answer that, but it's coated with something (zinc maybe) that keeps it from getting rusty.

Just curious as to the tag light situation, how are you going to light the tag? Maybe it is not a concern to you there, but around here, no tag light equals a ticket.

Something else I noticed after the other post is this area circled. Looks like something could be improved here while you have the welder out. I could be wrong, but it looks like a good place for water to enter and have its' way.

I wouldn't mind getting a second one for my beater but I don't want the flimsy stuff & I can't remember what brand the one I currently have is. I'm wondering if they're Mar-K brand gates?

Larry- there's a billet frame that's going over the plate, it's lighted. They give tickets for that here too. I had noticed that spot as well but hadn't thought about welding it in, that's a great idea and will definately give it a smoother look. I'll mention that to Kerry, I already know he'll say go ahead and do it.

The billet frame sounds cool, but that brings up another question, how are you going to run the wiring to it? Don't mean to be a pain in the posterior, but inquiring minds need to know these things, LOL!

Nice work Randy!. I have a custom made 3 LED tag light that would work perfect for that. Mine was made by bagged72blaze.

Still working out the details on the wiring, it will all have to be hidden to look professional, I just have to figure out how to hide it.

You could use the hotrod style connectors that are like contacts that close the circuit and power the lights when the tailgate is closed.

Eastwood has these and so do a bunch of other companies. They are door jamb switches used mainly on hotrods...

We were already talking about shaving off the inside lip on the sides but I hadn't thought about using cables. That sounds like a great idea, I'll have to run that past him, I think he'll probably go for it.

Here's what I did on my fleetside (someone apparently moved it to the FAQ page) but I don't know how well it will work on a stepside. I believe the hidden stepside latches that are available would work better.

Randy, you could run the wiring directly through the trunion location on the drivers side. Just pop a hole through the middle of the trunion on the box and also on the cup on the tailgate, could use grommets also to protect the wiring. Just a thought, Doug

Also, they make a billet licence plate frame with a built-in light. They are a pretty trick looking unit but if I remember right they were pricey, I think Billet Specialties make em and I think I've seen them on Cheese-bay also, Doug

Yeah, I had one of those on my Model A and really liked it. I'm just not sure if it would fit in the box that I made, I don't know if I gave enough room or not.
mocwon- That's awesome! I'm sure it's exactly what he's looking for, he just didn't want chains hanging on the outside and now that I see that I don't think I want chains on mine either. Great info, thanks!! ![]() |

Scoit,
I am willing to bet it's a Mar-K gate. I got a fleetside headboard for my box and it was coated the same and the fit was awesome ! Bolted right up. It was the only aftermaket part that did not need the reemer on the dremmel.
