Need Steering Help. Round 2
Found the correct coupler at the bone yard. Got it all hooked up. Followed the factory service manual, and filled the pump and started the truck for about 2 or 3 seconds. Then topped off the fluid. Repeated this until the level was good.
When I turn, the pump makes a growling sound the more I turn. Going straight it's quiet. I'm using synthetic fluid. However the bottle says it meets GM specs. Any Ideas Guys?? Also the steering seems real sensitive. Would a slightly long pitman arm contribute to the growling noise? It looks the correct length. I'm just curious. Jack it up,and turn the wheel back and forth ALOT to get the air out of the pump,with the engine off,make sure to keep it full.Dont drive it with a bunch of air in it,or you might be taking that one back for another one.

Really, you don't even have to jack it up, but it is easier on the pump if you do.
With the engine running, turn from lock to lock holding it on either end for 1 to 2 seconds. This will 'bleed' the system. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Thanks! That did it!! I'm the proud owner of a truck with power disk brakes (Last weekend) and now Power steering!! It is awesome! It all works great! Leakes oil from the gearbox and evrything. Just like evryone elses. Also installed the (smaller) Black paded steering wheel from an early 90's pickup. I'm loving life!
