Question I can't find this part for my 68 chevy HELP!!

I recently saw a 1968 Chevy stepside show truck that absolutely floored me. The art work alone on this truck probably cost a great deal. The front of the truck looked much wider than mine so I asked what he did. After he pointed it out, I realized that it should have been obvious. He removed the front Chevy emblem and took out the turn signals. Behind the upper and lower chrome grill loops are long riveted in sheet metal pieces. The top one is smooth all the way across like the manufacturer intended. However, the bottom one has pockets for the turning signals to sit. He had replaced the bottom one with another top piece and the entire front of the truck is now smooth all the way across. The problem is that I can’t find one of these pieces. Do any of you guys know where I could get one? p.s. Don’t say junk yard cause I have been to 6 of them… I would be willing to trade extra parts..
Thanks
68 chevy pu

Thanks.. as long as it doesn't get too expensive.. usually the entire front section runs pretty high... I have seen them get from 60 to 160 bucks.. I'm looking for something more reasonable.. but this looks good as long as it don't go over 30.. I appreciate the link.. I found this site the other day and have been addicted to it... You guys like everythng I like.

Sounds like a cool mod but what would it do to the airflow to the radiator?

increase?

It should increase the airflow... The marker light would not be there to obstruct.. His truck is orange.. I'll try to get some pics from him by next week and post them.. I am surprised that I have not seen it on other trucks.. I am going to chrome plate both of mine..

Welcome to the board from Kent, WA. I have a damaged grill that has a good section on top...that is the one you are looking for. I am debating whether or not to keep it for the same mod on my '67...sounds cool! I am sure there are several guys on here with parts. Try PICKMUP, and teeitup...they both have tons of parts. It I decide not to modify mine I will be happy to sell it to you for a very reasonable price. You will probably not want to wait on me though...LOL!

I was thinking about this mod too. I saw a set of headlights once with an amber bulb in it to act as the turn signal. Don't know how well this would work at night, but would work fine during the day.

I`ve seen `71/72 bumpers used when signals are eliminated from grille.Looks good. You can always use clear lenses, too.

He used the new bumper with turn signals in the bumper.. We live in Florida and there is no laws here requiring the use of turn signals or requiring them on a vehicle...

Yes.. I am seen the amber bulbs placed in the lights as well... But if you look around you will find a new bumper with lights in it... they are fog lights and you can replace them with turning signals...

Mistershotgun-

I was trying to find a set to look at them closer, but can't remember who manufactures them. I know I just saw them in a magazine as a new product.

Is this what you are talking about? The inner pieces are chrome but don't show in pic. I imagine it would look good with one of those bumpers with the round driving light holes. John

You guys should see the truck modifications to the tailgate... I am making a one of a kind. It is a smooth tailgate with a giant chevy bowtie.. the tie is a red light suppressed into the tailgate and the sides of it blink for turn signals.. I might make 2 or 3 of them if everyone likes mine.. I'll send pics of that to.
