timing ?

how do you figure out what your total timing should be? i herd a few people say it should be set between 34-36btdc. my crate motor came with the dizzy right from gm performance parts and the intial timing should be set at 10btdc when i do that im only getting 30btdc total timing what up with that? thanks for any info yall can give me

The distributor advance mechanism is not advancing as far as it could. You can try bumping your initial timing up to 12 btdc and that will give you 32 total advance.
