i need to tow a 72 chevy to my home so i'm renting a trailer so i can lift the front of it and pull it home on the rear wheels. i need the gross weight of both a longbed, and short bed because i don't know what it is yet. it has a 350 in it. i need an answer before saturday night.

My old SWB was right at 4000 with a 350/TH350...but for some reason, it was a bit heavier than it shoulda been. I figure it was from the 35 gallons of bondo the PO used.

If you are renting a tow dolly you may want to be careful about how much you tell the rental place. Some places won't let you tow a full size pickup, and they may ask what you are towing with and if that's too small they may say no.

Gross weight (GVWR as noted by the manufacturer) and curb weight (the actual weight of the truck) are two very different things.

The tounge weight will be minimal. You'll have no problems with that, even if the tow rig is an S-10... it is the total weight that will hurt, the Combined total vehicle weight.
