cutting coils
How many coils do I have to cut to get 1/2" lower, 1", 1 1/2 etc.. The truck is a small block with factory coils. I am getting spindles and want to lower it just a bit more. Also, can you cut a 1/4 or 1/2 off a coil or just full coils (because of the spring pockets) Thanks

You can cut up to a 1/4 coil due to the spring pockets. One could cut more, but they don't sit right afterward. I tried cutting 1/2 coil once and it just didn't work well. It seems to me that a whole coil will make for a 3" drop??? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I have heard that cutting springs is a big no no. You mess with the integrity of the metal and causes the spring to weaken. I have heard stories about springs breaking andcausing vehicles to run off the road. If you are gonna put in the kind of money it takes to lower your truck, I would say you should buy the drop coils and be safe. The last thing we want to hear about , is a fellow member getting hurt.
Just my 2 cents

If you use a chop saw or at least put them in a bucket of water while cutting, you'll be ok. Buying new ones is definitly better though.

One coil is about 3 inches. It a good lesson to learn.... makes it easer to justify buying drop spindles.
