402 BB cooling question
I am building a 402 BB. Lots of cam, 552/555, 278/284 duration. That might not be exactly the numbers but they are close. My question is, can I use the radiator that came out of the truck in the first place? The truck was originally a BB truck. Do I need to upgrade the radiator, I live in Cen. Texas.......Thanks in advance

If the original radiator is a 4 core and is in good shape you should be OK. I think all BB trucks were 4 core from the factory. With the performance upgrade you may have to look at something more effecient than the standard clutch fan. I have a similar engine set-up in my 72 LWB with a good 4 core and a plastic Flex-A-Lite fan. Runs right at 180 if I am moving or it is less than 65 degrees outside. In heat when stopped, the temp starts to climb up towards 200. As soon as I start moving again, it drops back to 180. I am thinking about a more effecient fan set-up to maintain a constant temperature. It is also important to have a properly working fan shroud installed. Good luck.

I'm running a 454 with a BIG cam, ( 450 HP ) I just put in a 3 row out of a 86 Suburban, with a 16 inch black magic electric fan and have no problem. Moving down the road it stays at 175 degrees when stopped 195 with the fan running. I'm also using a 160 degree thermostat.
