1971 350 engine question
Hey, I'm looking a 1971 GMC 1 ton dually that has the original engine 350 in it. Are these 350's a good motor to build up? 4 bolt main? HP from factory? Good heads? Are the 1 ton 350s any different than any of the other truck engines internally? BTW it a 2 barrel. Thanks

If you can find the suffix code on the front engine pad you can get some pretty good information on the engine.
If it is the original engine than it should be a good one to rebuild as it will be a 4 bolt main. Not sure on the heads as they may have small valves. I have seen some of the larger trucks with engines that have drive in steel plugs in the oil galleries instead of the bolt in style. There is a good chance that the crank is a steel crank, also. You will need to verify what the engine is though. Jim |
