Look what the postman brought me today...

Well today the first parts I need for the Rear Disc Brakes conversion came with the post.
Now all I need are the brackets and e-brake stuff and I can begin.
It feels like Christmas came very early this year!

Edmond

Yes I'm very happy with the parts. Came quickly too I might add.
I have ordered the brackets from Blackbirds Custom Trucks so I hope they won't take to long to arrive.
I want to start this job as soon as possible

I'll keep you updated, and I will make as many pictures as I can during the swap.

Cya,
Edmond

I had no idea you could convert the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks to discs. That is too cool!

Could you please provide some details on the kit/parts. Application, source etc etc. I haven't ever come across an 8 lug conversion. I am very interested. Could you document the swap for us?
Thanks,
Tim

The kit is from Blackbird Custom Trucks. Take a look here:GM Rear Disc Brakes
I will make as many pictures as possible and post them when I'm finished.

Edmond

hehehe come on in fellows the water is fine... best mod so far.

My lame quicky page for H052 rear disc brakes..

Edmond opted for a kit and needed e-brakes for his local laws, they actually make you demonstrate they'll stop the truck in a certain distance at a certain speed or something to that effect.

Awesome man!! U rock!

Is there a prop valve that can be used instead of the wilwood adj. one? maybe from another later model truck, that will dial in the correct bias?

I highly doubt it as the calipers I used on the rear are the same as the front.
Normall rear calipers have a WAY smaller piston than fronts in a factory designed 4 wheel disc system.

I used a valve from a heavy front wheel drive 4 wheel disc car to get close but the rears still locked up early.
A $40 valve fixed it and it works GREAT so I'm not complaining, and had expected it to happen. Having the same parts on both axles will make buying parts much easier as I get older and yet more senile hehehe.

It is important you get a combo valve that is designed for 4 wheel disc as a disc/drum valve will hold off (delay) the fronts to wait for the drums to energize AND will maintain residual pressure on the rears as well.. neither characteristic is desirable in a 4 wheel disc system !!!

Thank you for going with Blackbird's, Edmond.
As for a proportioning valve, that is a choice of the customer.
98% of all kits we have sold have never changed their valve and have yet to have any issues.
But again it is the customers choice if he wants to change it.

Here are install instructions.
