vin # ???

The vin number on my truck is CKE182S105116. I have figured the production number on the last six numbers. The problem is my cab doesn't have the rear view mirror spot above the windshield. So I think I have a 72 cab, but I don't have the door pillar release valve above the vin #. I know it was made at the St. Louis plant because of the S. The E stand for a v-8. The 1 stands for half ton. The K for 4x4. It's the 8 and the 2 that I have a problem. If the 8 is the year then what of the 2. It is either a 72 or a 68. Do the 4x4 have the CK like mine? Or just the K. Any help would be appreciated. I know that a 4 is a stepside and a 34 is a fleetside.

It's a 72. My truck is a 72 and the VIN starts with CCE142Z. The number before the factory code (Z) is the year.

8 is the body style...in this case a blazer and the 2 is the year 1972.
The first C up front was for Chevrolet in 1972.

Its a Chevy 4x4 blazer 1972, eight cylider built in St Louis...or at least that what the vin decodes too. You mentioned a cab...hmm, somebody swapped something.

Your assuming a little to much with the 4 and 34 you wrote about..4 meant a box on a truck chassis...not what kind of box..could be stepside or fleetside.

34 does mean a fleetside...but not often seen on Chev vin numbers,,,more a GMC thing in their vins, but not always.

You would see the 34 in the model number on the glove box sticker typically on a fleetside truck Chev or GMC.

I thought that 6 was the blazer code number? Is there a book with all the codes? I am just trying to figure out what I have. The frame on my truck is a cut down. I bought a swb 4x4 frame and I found the numbers stamped under the door. Anyway, thanks for your help.
