Keeping it original..what to do

I really like the idea that my seats are original to my 69 cst blazer. The passenger and the rear seat(black) have very little wear. The driver seat foam is a bit "flat" and there is a tear on one side.

Now, I know I would like to reupholster them with nice new foam and covers, but :
1) Keeping the seats original, in my mind, makes the k5 that much more valuable. Imagine, in the year 2010, having the original seats, un-adulterated.
....seems like that would be worth more than shiny new repro's.

2) I've toyed with the idea of putting these in storage(protected) and buying a second set to do with what I want.

3) Do I just keep on using the originals till they fall apart...they are old after all and have had very little use over the past decade.

I guess the best way to put it is that if I was shopping for a k5, I prefer buying one that is towards the original side, rather than the restored side.

Thoughts on this?

The most valuable trucks are the originals & the extremely well modified. If I were you, I'd get the driver's seat recovered/foamed and enjoy the truck how it is. Keep the modifications to simple, bolt on items and use your '77 as your modified truck (maybe even do a full top conversion from a '73-'75 on it!)

My '69 has been modified quite a bit. My '72 is almost all original. As I get older, I'm starting to prefer the stock trucks more and more. I still like a nice custom, as long as it is done well. When/if I get a 2wd, it will most likely be lowered and maybe 'bagged.

If you will be using it, build it the way you like it, just keep the old parts. My 2 cents

Agree with all of you. It's a personal decision each of us has to make. Personally, I too prefer a more stock setup. Although as I go through each nut and bolt, if an update makes it more safe, convenient it will be considered, ie HEI, integral voltage regulator etc. But over all the stock appearance is important to me. But then on the other hand a super modified rig, 2 or 4 wheel drive, is a thing of beauty also. Maybe I'll go that route if I ever do another.

my 77 is where I've $banked$ at for the past couple of years with modifications.
The 69 is not 100% original. I've swapped in another engine, but I figure the more i can keep it stock the better. I definitly appreciate the 69 being stock (mostly)and can not imagine lifting it an inch, etc.
On a side note, I got my rear panels from my ebay buy and will be installing those.......now that is stock looking!

I'm keeping mine stock, cept for HEI and int reg alternator. I will not modify the stock wiring harness, just add to it. Just curious, how many here have seen a K5 with a 250/3 speed??? I think mine has to be one of a very few surviving.
