Engine Swap

I'm new to this board ,been here about a week. I enjoy everyone's questions and comments and gereat pictures. I have a question. I have a stock 1969 C-20 long bed. It now has a 307 with 4 speed granny trans. I have a bum leg and clutching is sometimes difficult. I also have a 283 with a two speed powerglide transmission attached. Would this be a difficult swap? And would it be a good swap?

IMHO a Powerglides best application is for drag racing only, not street. Get a turbo 350, or 400, but best especially for a low geared C20 would be a 700R4 with the overdrive. Your will need to remove the manual cross member under the bellhousing and add an auto xmember under rear or trans. Starter nose will need to be changed to auto type, driveshaft will need to be changed or altered to fit, cooler lines, different radiator for cooler, and throttle cable/kickdown hooked up and vacumn line ran depending on trans type. Auto shift column, and linkage should be swapped in, backup lights and neutral safety switch rewired, correct brake pedal, remove cluth pedal etc.

In my opinion, the 283 will be so weak with the glide in a heavy truck. I ran the powerglide behind a 250 horse 350 and it was a major dog. 700r4 would be sweet with the 283 because of the low first gear.

Good Luck!!
