68 C-10 Driveshaft question

I have a 1968 C-10 with a 350 engine and a 350 turbo and has a long bed. Currently it has a 2-piece drive shaft. I am looking into the possibility of switching it out to a 1-piece drive shaft.

Does anyone know if any newer chevy trucks have a one piece that I could pick up at a junkyard for cheap. I was thinking that possibily at 1970 or 72, or maybe even 1973-87 chevy drive shaft might work, since alot of them have turbo 350.

Just looking for a little help on this one. Any helpful links to sites would be helpful as well.

As far as I know you wont be able to go with a one piece in the LWB because the driveshaft is so long that it would mess up the pinion angle on the rear end.

You can definetly go with a one piece on a SWB...

I will tell you this....My 68 SWB that I am building the 'bad azz' motor for will definetly have a one piece in it

A two peice can be built just as a strong as a one piece.

3in. .083 tube and a carrier bearing from a 3/4 ton so it has a different mounting style that is alot stronger.

The reason why I am thinking of switching to a one piece drive shaft is for torque. My thought was that with more the more joints you have, that some of the energy transfer is lost??

I am thinking that with the one piece drive shaft it would give the tires a little extra force for burnouts. My previous vehicle was a '65 chevelle, so maybe I am just not used to the 2-part drive shaft idea. Or maybe it is that the one piece looks cooler than 2-piece.

i got a 1 peice racing shaft in my long bed never had a single problem with it. its perfectly balanced though. i just had to cut the crossmember the shaft went through

I would be interested in where you got yours done. If you have a turbo350 and a 12 bolt rear end I would be interested in measurments if you still have them.

I just had a new center carrier bearing put into my 72 Chevy driveshaft, was tearing out the Napa ones. Hopefully this one will last a lot longer.

That is the center bearing that I was thinking about putting in my 72. I was all up for getting one until I saw the $100 price tag. But maybe it would be worth it.

Where did you get the one that you have in the pics?

This question has been asked a million times. YES you can put a 1 piece shaft in a long bed. Just have it built by someone who knows what there doing. OR go with what extd56 has, that’s a great system. I personally have 1 piece shafts in both my sons LWB 350/4 speed and my SWB 454/350. Either way if you use the right stuff they work great.

Right now I am just getting ideas for my next project. I am going to be contacting a local driveshaft company to get some quotes. I will keep you posted with what I find.
