Noob w/'61 Stepside, '69 Suburban, and '69 Stepside
I love GM trucks anywhere from showroom stock to radically modified. Mostly the 55-72, but there are very nice examples outside of that year range.
I learned to drive in a '64 fleetside with a granny-box, of which my dad was the second owner. I did a partial resto on it in 1999 and gave it to my brother (with the promise that he'll keep it in the family). In 1993 I bought my first Chevy truck after rolling the '67 Bug I had been fixing-up/modifying for a few years. Thank God I rolled that thing I dropped a 350/350 combo in the '61 in high school and lowered it etc. It was quite a head-turner, even in primer. I gave it to a shop to do a full custom frame-up resto-mod in 1999. Long story short, I got ripped off and was luck to get the truck back in pieces along with most of the $2500 worth of parts I had sent them. I was in the Air force at the time and stationed across the country, so there was not much I could do (believe me I tried). I took the truck out of storage in 2000 and started doing all the body mods I had dreamed up or seen elsewhere over the years. It has quite a bit of custom body work at this point, which you can see in the photo from the link below. I had been considering various full custom frames/suspension and wasn't sure if I wanted a big block etc. I finally found the answer to all of those questions in one package deal: A 1999 C5 Corvette rolling chassis. I'm in the process of fitting the '61 cab/bed to the vette chassis now. I got into the 67-72s when I swapped titles with a guy: 1995 Ranger for a 1969 Stepside. I've done a few things to it as can be seen in the pics. January of this year I bought a 1969 Suburban 2wd 1/2 ton w/ 396 off eBay (some of you may have seen it on there). Since then I've stolen all the "goodies" from the '69 stepside and put them on the Suburban. Things like drop spindles, drop springs, lowering blocks, front discs and booster, etc. I've also made custom inner panels and will soon be putting a bed wood kit in the rear. Looks like a great site! Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 08-03-2005 at 06:02 PM. Reason: mis-spelling |

Thanks, I appreciate your opinion. I'm on the fence on whether to use the steps or not. The front bed panel may end up recessed into the cab...
