dana 70 drw questions

anyone know how common a dana 70 with 4.10s is? i recently aquired a dana 70 from a 76 f-350 that im considering fitting under my k20... it seems to be locked up, but im going to check the drum condition first. how much wider will this rear be then a srw rear?

Is it a cab and chassis rear(narrow) or the wide rear? If it's the wide rear i believe it will be around 8" overall wider than a srw axle.

Pull out a measuring tape & camera and lets see what your working with first, from there other members can give you compairisons. Do you nee WMS to WMS or distance to backing plates?

ok, here we go...
on the dana 70:
i found a tag on the cover, that claims it to be a 4.10.
from perch to perch is 40.5"
from backing plate to backing plate is roughly 51"
from wms to wms is roughly 67"

on my k20:
the HO52 is a 4.10
from perch to perch is 39.5"
from plate to plate is roughy 53"
from wms to wms is roughly 63"

now, for the new questions steming from my new-found info:

can i have the perches moved on this rearend?
they would just need to go in 1/2" on each side, right?
is 4" wider too wide? that would push each back tire out 2"....
is this rear a posi or open? (see pics)
how badly is this ring gear damaged in terms of being fixable? (see pic)

I'd say time for a new gear set. Also the perch spacing probably wouldn't be a big problem, go with it as is. That would be a cab and chassis rear end. It would match the track between the front and rear wheels, if you ran regular rims on the rear.

Also, the H072 dually I have is 62.5" wms-wms. It came out of a 67 C30(cab and chassis).

a new gear set is just a ring and pinion, right?

will my springs be able to "bend" out far enough to sit on those perches?

so the front and rear track will match now if all 4 rims match? (IE 4 whitespokes with the same backspacing)

its possible this oen is alot more narrow from wms to wms, i just eyeballed how wide the drum was and doubled it and added it to the backing plate width

can you tell if this thing is posi?
