Blazer Experts
Just curious as to what we know. With regard to Blazer doors, it appears to me after looking at dozens of original GM Blazer doors---they all appear to be truck doors that were cut down at the plant. Other then the reinforcment plate surrounding the door latch mechanism, is there any other reinfocement or welding done on a Blazer door that makes it different from a truck door???
What do you know from your experience???? Truck doors cut down? Period?? |

I think all Blazer doors ('69 - '72) also have a screw below the vent window that holds the inner and outer door skins together. They have a little black plastic contoured washer that fits the screw head to the contour of the inner door skin. In '72, all doors (truck and Blazer) got this screw and the door skin was dimpled for the screw instead of using that plastic thing. My '70 doors have this screw, and all other original Blazer doors that I have seen have it also.

Hmm, when I reskinned my doors, I don't remember seeing this screw. Anybody got a pic? Jeff.

Jeff the screw is just below the vent wing and window track for the glass..

My '69 K5 doesn't have this screw and has the original doors. The 69-72 truck assembly manual shows you where to cut the doors as well. This would make me believe they are all the same.

My 71Jimmy has the dimple in the door, not the washer. Never seen just the contoured washer. Let's see some pics of a door with the coutoured washer.

Mine has the screw and the black plastic washer. Original doors no doubt about it. Its a 69 k5.

maybe its an afterthought to hold the two pieces together. Most of those links inside under the vent I have seen were either broken or rusted out.

The plastic peice with a screw is an add-on fix. The 72 doors (ONLY 72), have the countersunk screw in the door... no plastic. Ask any body man that has been around since then. The doors had a tendency to spread, this moved the inner door away from yhe window squeege; the scews brought them in line and held them there. Same on the pickups. Also, the 72's have a reinforcment on the latch.

I have pulled three sets of doors and they all had the screw with the plastic washer. One was a 70, one a 71, and the other I am not sure.

my 71 CST has them. The drivers side was stripped out, so I put a dab of silicone on a speed nut, to hold it in place if I ever have to remove the screw in the future, and with the door panel off, I could just barely reach inside to line it up and put the screw back. It did pull the door top edge in a bit.
does anyone sell the caps that cover the top of the cut off post, I'm missing the drivers side. |

The blazer door top caps (plastic) are now available aftermarket. I do have a pair I would sell for $30. shipped if someone is interested. Originals are hard to fine that aren't cracked. Drivers side is the one that gets 90% of the use so that is ususally the first one to go!
I am curious if there is any additionl welding to stregthen the blazer doors. I just ordered a pair of Goodmark blazer doors and we will see if they are any different from truck doors, sturcture wise. I doubt it! |

So what does it screw into? The other side of the door skin? Would be a good idea as those center pieces always give up. Might have to modify mine to have one Jeff.
