don't try to patronize me saying that "I know. Your facts are real and mine are junk. Just like all arguements." That is BULL! I read your facts and came back with facts I found!! I just came back with different numbers from a ethanol source, not some college where they round up or down to fit their purpose.

Well, personally, I support it, because it supports our farmers. As an alternative fuel. If gasoline went up to 3-4 dollars a gallon, I'd be useing it. I don't want to be forced to use it, but it's nice to know that we have an alternative that burns cleaner, and is home grown.

120 octane for 25cents??? I WISH! but anyway, I've only seen one person posting a site with anything that looks like fact. I live on a farm, and know that since ethonal has been intorduced the price of corn has improved for us and everywhere I goto the gas pump I see ethonal(89Octane 10%blend) as cheaper then old 88 octane unleaded. we've not had problems, you just gotta know everything the ethonal can eat throuh the wrong plastics in some carbs, you just gonna be educated. you are correct in saying that mileage will decrease. 50% seems a little steep but it will decrease. the cause of this is because our engines are inefficient. the 85% ethanol that we have around here is 100 octane or better. we can run higher comp. ratios with that and not have as many problems. higher compression means higher efficiency. Ethanol does burn hotter and therefore will raise cylinder temps. some studying needs to be done and see if this will hurt pistons or anything.
Here in Iowa farmers can produce 2000 gallons of Ethanol with no tax, as long as it is denatured (unfit for human consumption, usually with gasoline or some poison). The mash/beer from the production that is left over can be fed to cattle and other livestock and has great nutritional value. Really Ethanol production is no different than Beer production except that it uses corn. it is still a fermented grain and I don't think smells any different than a Brewery. And if people think that smells bad then they should have lived around here a few years back. we had this place that used the wash water from the local dairy to keep their compost moist. several acres were covered with this and it was basicly spoiled, sour, milk. THAT stunk. another thing, gasoline is made up of about 12 DIFFERENT FUELS AND ADDITIVES. ethanol is ONE fuel that cleans much better than gas, has a higher octane raiting than gas, and therefore, in a pure form, cannot "seperate". Ethanol is really a better fuel than gasoline will ever be. I guess that this argument could go on forever but in my opinion I think that the advantages of ethanol greatly outweigh any disadvantages. ------------------ 1969 C-10 292 I-6 4 spd in the middle of a restoration. going to get a 327 and 3.07 gears but keeping all of the original parts so I can put it back to original later on down the road. 55 chevy 4 door 150 47 Willys CJ-2A [This message has been edited by texnician01 (edited April 17, 2002).]

I live on a farm and run alot of small engines the only reason it is hard on them is ethanol absorbs mosture very easy it also dose a good job of cleaning the gunk out of your fuel system which may cause some of the loose chunks to plug something but so what your carb probly needed cleaning any way.So if your going to let something sit for a long time dump in some stai-bil fuel or if you are using ethanol for the first time plan on cleaning your carb, no big deal
