oil pan dent upward,
ok, while i was under te 454 changing oil earlier i noticed that the sump part of the oil pan is dented upward pretty good, someone probably once put jack uner it or something, but i need to know of any ideas anyone may know of as to how to maye go about getting some of the dent out of it, the drain hole is not so close to edge of the pan sump area like on small block engine, so maybe i could put a rod or something of some kind in the hole and kinda maybe pry some of the dent out ? maybe ?
thanks for anything |

you could spot weld a nail and pull it (depends on how thick the oil pan is though) or maybe grab onto it with a suction cup and try pull on it that way too

the only way I've ever had any luck was pulling the pan and beating it out with a BFH. they are made out of some pretty thick material. you might try a slide hammer with a 1/4" hook on the end of it, as long as it's a big enough hook to get past the sides of the threads so as not to mushroom the inside of the hole.

maybe if i could find some kind of expanding thing on threaded rod of some kind that could fit in throguh plug hole while collapsed and then could be made to expand once is through it,
they make something like that to hang objects on walls or ceilings like for sheetrock and stuff, when you cant get into wall stud or something, bottom surface of pan at the sump area on 454 engines are totally flat, correct ? just checking,, as much as i dont want to, im probably gonna have to pull pan off when i pull the engine out of the truck soon,, guess i wont put that synthetic oil in just yet since im just gonna have to drain it all again soon anyways. oil is gonna be spotless after all these changes, lol. PF35 Delco filter is ok for 454 right ? hmm... thanks Last edited by Fast68Chevy; 08-26-2002 at 03:29 AM. |

lol !
Chris, i wish for you to please demonstrate this elaborate and non-risky or dangerous(cough*) trick with your engine ?!¿ you would have to dent your oil pan first though... what do you say ? thanks Last edited by Fast68Chevy; 08-26-2002 at 04:51 AM. |
