Frigidaire vs Sanden
The big brown truck delivered my polished Sanden 508 a/c compressor today.
I just had to throw it on the bathroom scale and compare it to the axial compressor that was on my truck originally. The results.... drum roll please...... Sanden model 508 - 18 lbs Frigidaire model 085933 - 38 lbs That is a whopping 20 lbs savings in just the a/c compressor itself. I'm sure if I included all the associated bracketry it would be even greater difference. If anyone is interested, I can take some pics tomorrow. I have a 19"x30.5" aluminum parallel flow condensor on order. When it comes in I will compare it to the stock condensor. Between the compressor, mounting brackets, condensor and hoses, I am anticipating almost 30 lbs of weight reduction.... and it ALL comes off the front of the truck AHEAD of the wheels.

Greg that thing is going to pull th wheels with all that weight gone when you get done. You need to wiegh the truck when your done to see how many pounds you have shed....

Unfortunately I do not have a 'before' weight for the truck, so a before/after comparison will not be possible. But some of the things that should contibute to the overall weight reduction are - aluminum intake manifold, Sanden compressor and associated a/c parts, and of course the fiberglass front clip. I also plan to relocate the battery to the rear of the bed. And I am still debating on whether or not to ditch the dual saddle tanks and put a fuel cell behind the rear axle.

I really wanted to go with a sanden when I replaced my compressor last summer. It would have been nice to get rid of the power robbing, noisy R4. I added up the cost of the compressor, new brackets, and new custom hoses, and ended going with a new stock replacement. It sucks being poor and cheap.
