need information about c10 cheyeene super
Hello all,
Recently a co-worker offered me a 68 (?) chevy at no charge for a parts truck. Well yesterday I went and looked at it and to my surprise it is a c-10 cheyenne super with a 402 big block! It is a bit rough, hood is crinkled, needs a front grill and bumper and although it has been sitting for awhile it has bben garaged. Can someone enlighten me on what constitutes a cheyenne super and what options it came with? Like I said it does have a big block w/ ac and is an automatic from what I remember... I'll post some pics when I get it to the house in the next coule of weeks... Thanks!

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
If it's free I would grab it for sure, just the bib block parts and brackets are worth good $$. As far as options go, it could a just a few or it could be loaded. The trim on a SUPER would include upper spear moulding, lower woodgrain moulding, woodgrain tailgate piece, woodgrain on the doorpanels guage cluster and glovebox, carpet, headliner, cargo light, chrome vent windows, and stainless windshield trim.

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
I don't think it could be a '68. Cheyenne's didn't come out until '71. Also, no 402's in '68....not until '71. Seems to me that most Cheyenne Supers were '72 models.
Somebody correct me, if I have screwed up.

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
402 started in`71 and a Cheyenne Super and a Cheyenne have the woodgrain mouldings with only the Super having it on the gauge bezel and glovebox door.Supers had the s/s handle cover.

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
Without seeming overly enthusiastic, I would jump on this opportunity with 3 feet!!! It does sound like a 71 or 72 as they were the only years for the Super Option. The option is really only some minor trim stuff--wood grain dash cluster, glove box door overlay and emblem, side fender emblems and possibly tailgate handle stainless cover. Year wise, easiest way to tell is to look at where the cab rear view mirror is mounted--72 only had them mounted on the glass. The super was slightly different in 71 and 2 with a different glove box emblem. In any case, an original big block truck if complete is worth a few decent bucks----check out the build option sheet on the glove box door to see what was originally built. But, most important is to "GET ER DONE" deal wise!!hehehehe AND HOME!!!! Huck

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
I was looking at a`70 sales brochure and it listed 400 engine(402).This is a new one to me,never noticed.I`ve never seen a`70 big block that didn`t have the 396 emblem.In`71 they still listed the engine as 396 on the VIN-spec sheet although the emblems were changed to 400.I still think`70 was the change over year and they were just promoting the 396 as a 400.It`s only rounding it off a little.

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
There were no 396 engines built after 69...camaros, chevelles...trucks, they all had 402.
No answer to why the Special Parts Identification label says 396... and the 400 badges were kinda stupid too. |

Re: need information about c10 cheyeene super
I never could understand what GM was thinking when they put the 400 badges on the "402's" What the heck was wrong with putting the 402 badge on a 402ci? Never will understand that one.
