Talking Yee-haww!!!

looked at my points distributor for the last time today.....put my HEI together..new cap, rotor, wires, and such. Wired the 12 gauge lead and the tach lead, and hit the switch....okay, okay...all were off by one posistion, tried it again...and vvrroomm!!!!!! Houston....we have lift-off!!!
Okay...now for the questions....book says 8 degrees initial...doesn't seem that the motor likes that....not advanced enough. I'm running stock heads....so I'm guessing my compression ratio is around 8.5 to 1. and I use 87 octane. What's everyone else using? What timing...what fuel?
Anyway....Idle is MUCH smoother....starts right up...and I'm not sure...but it seems to have a little more power....anyway, I'm happy!

congratulations on your HEI!!!.....I timed mine at 8 BTDC, and it ran like crap, idled smooth, started easy, but was a complete dog!! I hooked it to the tractor in the dirt and advanced it till it pinged, then started backing it off till it quit pinging and now it runs good and i'm happy with it.

Mine is running around 10 degrees of advance, maybe slightly more. Seems like I remember the mark on the balancer being just past the end of the indicator. Truck likes to run where it is. Starts NOW and runs good.
