Yeah it's a 92' w/ an intercooler.I need to know how to handle the wiring and how to mount it.We have the whole body off the 67' it's going it and the Cummins is ready to lift out and set in the framerails.

im not sure. i havent gotten this deep into my research. im waiting for the chevycummins.com website to be available. hopefully they will offer some info on the painful wiring. i hate wiring projects!

I haven't been under the hood of a pre-93 in a long time, but I don't remember much in the way of wiring on them..............I didn't have any trouble with mine, adapted the GM harness to the injection pump kill, and ran Aftermarket guages which I adapted to the GM harness for temp, oil pressure, and EGT...........Have a boost gauge too, but nothing complicated there.

OK,pulled the motor and that went well but when we went to set it in and it doesn't even come close to fitting the Chevy crossmember and the Dodge one is too wide.What do I do? I have seen an aftermarket one somewhere but don't know where.

Hope your a good fabricator I had the luck of being able to use the GM bell housing/rear crossmember for mine, although I had to make the front two, and modify the big cross member under the oil pan on my 4x2...........

I'd say adapt the Dodge one to fit.

That's what I figured.There is a guy on Coloradok5.com that makes them but I'll try to modify this one myself.Yes I can fabricate.I'll get the plasma cutter out and narrow it,then weld new ends on so I can bolt it to the frame.

I shaved the ends off the crossmember with my plasma cutter and it fits nice.Now I have to weld ends on it.I tryed to set the motor in but the stupid A/C pump caused me some grief so I pulled it back out and removed it.Now I have to finish the crossmember and re-install the motor. I'll keep posting my progress.

You have the placement all figured out for the Cummins? I'd be hugging the firewall as close I as could with it...........I don't have much room on either side of mine, and it is close enough to the radiator it still makes me nervous............But I haven't figured out a way to move the radiator about 1" ahead and still have room for the electric fan on the front of the radiator without it hitting the grill.

One thing is for sure, its probably a heck of alot easier to put a Cummins in a 4x4 than a 4x2

I don't have the the cab on so placement will be an interesting thing. I'll probably have to set the cab on with my loader and go from there.The truck has a 10" lift so we don't have any clearance issues with the front diff.

Just a possible tip for you guys. Never seen a cummins conversion but there is a 71 around here with a detriot in it. To carry the extra weight he strapped a transverse leaf underneath the front crossmember with the ends hooked to the a-arms. Not sure if he made the whole thing up himself or not. But i've seen similar setups on motorhomes. He puts alot of miles on this truck and hasnt had any chassis trouble yet.

This is for the 2wd swappers of course.

What Detroit did he use? 4-53, 4-71? I wanted to use a Detroit, but going with the Cummins it was cheaper. Sounds like a neat truck though............One thing about the Detroits you can put a REAL Jake brake on them off a larger one(6-71 or bigger), not one of those wimpy exhaust brakes on this other ones that everyone brags up.

The suspension on my 4x2 is pretty close to maxed out in the front end. I planned on just air bagging it, but my have to look into that as I am not crazy about all the extra junk I have to haul to use air bags.

I am going to use a 6-71 Detroit in my next pickup with a few mod's, I'll probably have people swerving off the road infront of me when I am driving it..........I am one of the few whole love hearing a Detroit Scream.

It's a 4-53. I know they were all supercharged but were they all turbo as well? This has both. It's a pretty tight fit really. Truck has a custom tilt front end made from the original steel. He also used a clark 5spd out of a UPS truck. Still has the stock rear end and front suspension, other then the added leaf. There's alot of other custom stuff including color changing paint. Which is sad because i've never seen the truck washed. It's strictly a work truck. The inside of the bed is all aluminum diamond plate and has a fifth wheel hookup. They filled the inside of the cab with sound absorbing foam too. All the gauges are custom. Yet he put white spoke wagon wheels on it. The guy is just a bit off.

We set the cab in place for testing clearance and found a major problem. The heater to turbo clearance in 1/2"!!! How do you have a heater with a Cummins??? Otherwise things look good but that needs addressed soon as winter is setting in. I'm also wondering if a 1" body lift will be required to get the nv4500 to bolt up without rubbing on the floor .

Sounds like my kind of guy I imagine that little jimmy with both a blower and a turbo really humms............I almost bought a late 70's GMC 3/4 ton with a 4-71. They guy who had it said they haven't found a gooseneck big enough to haul the weight needed to slow it down on a hill............Sadly it was also a 4x2 so I didn't want it.

Need a 4x4.

67K30, The intake/exhaust is opposite on mine compared to a 5.9.........The turbo/intake on mine is on the driverside. Got plenty of clearance.

My big question is why is diesel almost a buck a gallon more than regular gasoline here in Michigan? I like diesels too but I wouldn't swap one into a truck and have to pay that much more for fuel.

I was told it is partly because of taxes and refinery's having to make different blends of diesel for the winter............Sounds like hog wash but like I said it is what they told me.

I get good fuel mileage with mine, even though, I still run my gas car in the winter as I don't like the hard starting and other issues..............Main reason I put a diesel in was because it was different(Everyone has a small or big block) and the low end torque these engines make is unreal.......I like that in a pickup.

My next one will be a trailer puller, so I'll need the power and reliablity that you really can't get with a gas engine. Not to mention it would be difficult to run a 9 spd Eaton Roadranger behind most gas engines.

The main reason we are doing it is that the motor was shot and we bought the whole truck w/ the Cummins for just a little more than it would cost to build a 400hp 383 Stroker.We can easily get 350hp out of this Cummins and have way more torque.We also are building a wheelin' truck not a DD'er and diesels wheel great,or at least my 480hp Duramax does .

IMO, Small Blocks are way over-rated for pickup motors................Not to mention the Cummins will go a heck of alot, and I mean a heck of alot more time between rebuilds.

We got the engine crossmember installed today.Will do the other one tomorrow and hopefully mount the motor.I have to pick up a tranny yet.Hopefully by Christmas it will be going,maybe sooner.

I am almost persuaded to go with the 3.4 instead of the 5.9, due to all the negative clearance problems ive been hearing about with the 5.9.

I am just trying to do research on how much power i can get out of the 3.4...so i thought maybe i could rig up a twin turbo set-up if there is enough clearance between the inner fender and the firewall.

The turbo on the 6AT3.4 is on the drivers side..........The intake is on the passengers side along with the injection pump, backwards of the 5.9.

The turbo on mine is actually down next to the frame on the drivers side. I don't know how a twin turbo would work as space is tight.

Maybe you could try a 4BT3.9? They'd take being turned up better than the 3.4 because the 3.4 is indirect injected and has glow plugs. IMO, the 3.4 is alot smoother running than either the 4 or 6BT and makes more than enough power for my needs. Runs about 150 hp stock. I'd like to run an intercooler eventually and maybe swap out the turbo and push 200 hp. Even at 150 hp it works alot better in the truck than the 350 I tore out, because it has way more low end grunt, then the boost kicks in and your gone.

I like the fact she'll crank right out to 4,000 rpms no sweat.......
