Dropped lower control arms and airbags

I am wondering how close you could get the frame down combining drop spindles, drop arms and airbags? Added to my drop spindles and bags, I am thinking another 3" of arm drop would put my X-member close to the ground. Is there some component conflict I am not realizing?

Re: Dropped lower control arms and airbags

Yes, there is a conflict. You would be putting yourself at risk as those components are not designed to go together. By putting Lowered LCA's with dropped spindles, the lower control arm will be closer to the ground and if you get a flat, all the weight of the vehicle will be on the control arm and you will loose control.

A better/safer alternative is a dropped crossmember.

Won't work.... As Capt said. Also you should be able to lay the control arms on the ground with just bags and spindles.FYI- Your crossmember sits lower then your frame rails.

Re: Dropped lower control arms and airbags

This was a setup I had that had NO spindles and only my bag setup:

This is the limiting factor on getting the front of these trucks down.

BTW, I make and sell dropped crossmembers. This is a write-up XXL did on the one I chopped for him.

Captkaos, what tire height are you running to get that low without spindles?

My truck with drop spindles and bags sits my LCAs about 2" from the tarmac, this with the 30" roll around wheel/tires currently on it.

This is what was under it:

It is $385 + $75 (or a core) + shipping (typically about $40 - 50 ) This gets a chopped crossmember cleaned up and shipped.

It will look like this when I am done:

Here is the feedback I got from XXL (pics are in there also):

~29" tall tires. They were 255/55/17's The bag wasn't compressed all the way though, so 30" would do the same.

BigSky & Layed, have you guys cut out your bump stops yet? That may be what everyone else did to get that low.

Yes, the way I cut it, you need nothing else cut. The only issue (which is the same for any dropped member) is the steering clearance, and some trimming on the crossmember for center link clearance.

I have removed my stock steering stops. The reason my LCAs aren't on the ground is because the front tires I am using to roll the chassis around in the garage are 30" tall. I plan to run 255/45/18s which will bring me down 1-1/2" from where I am now. LCAs will be about 3/4" from the ground like Captains ride.
