Door won't unlatch

I have a '73 with a '75 passenger door on it, and I can't get the thing to unlatch so I can remove the door. I've hosed it down with WD-40 from all possible directions, tapped & bumped with my fist for vibration, pried (not too hard) with a big screwdriver, and tried it from inside and out. It's only half-latched, in other words not completely shut, but it refuses to budge. It's not locked. Anybody got an idea how I can get this thing open without destroying it?

Re: Door won't unlatch

It sounds like your going to have to remove the door panel and go inside. That may take a little work trying to get it off with the door closed, but I don't see too many other options....

Re: Door won't unlatch

Maybe moving the locking up and down will help. (Maybe the locking mechanism is stuck. You could also try to completely shut the down and try again. (But again, it may end up completely latched.) Like N2 said, taking off the door panel may be a bear with the door close.

Good luck.

Re: Door won't unlatch

With the door closed it won't be easy, but with it being a '75 door, the panel doesn't cover the whole area. You will probably need a stubby screwdriver, but it can be removed.

Are you thinking the door handle isn't working, or the latch?

I can see you have tried just about everything but did you try pushing upward on the door while trying to open it ?

Re: Door won't unlatch

To open my driver's door from the outside, I have to push the button with my thumb and 'side step' it off if you know what I mean. The button pops out and the door will open. If I just push the button in normally, the button stays in and the door stays shut. Hope this works for you.
