Oil Pressure switch/sensor common problem?
OK so I got in my 90 4wd burb and drove 13 hours yesterday from King, NC to Memphis, TN. Engine ran awesome, 17 MPG ran like a top. Get here and my oil pressure sensor is showing low. No lights just the gauge. No valve train noise, runs like new. Is the oil pressure switch a common or semi common fault on the 5.7 - 350 ? I am thinking its just the gauge itself and have been told this by others here, just want to run this by you guys.

Re: Oil Pressure switch/sensor common problem?
Yes it is a common problem, I changed the sending unit on a freinds 89 K-5 a couple of weeks ago. It was showing 0 oil pressure at idle but works perfect now. It was kind of hard to get to, I ended up just pulling the distributor to make it easy. The part was like $25.

Re: Oil Pressure switch/sensor common problem?
It can be a pain to change because a 90 has one switch behind the dist...get a set of obstruction wrenches from harbor freight on the cheap and you won't have to pull the dist. 17mpg...must be a half ton with a R4 as our V2500 gets 11-12mpg with a TH400...lol.

Re: Oil Pressure switch/sensor common problem?
Thanks Wink Tim for the oil pressure gauge info. I bought an 87 4x2 last year and it has been showing 0 pressure since I bought it, so now I'm sure its the sender and thanks to you I know where it is on the motor.
Hey ZipGun do you have the Helix Power Tower spacer on your Burb? I did some surfing after I seen this thread and found one at performanceproducts.com for 59.95, does that price sound about right to you? I also found the Airaid intake system for 139.00.. I have an 87 4x2 with 3:08's in the rear. If you get 17mpg with your 4x4 ( which probably has 3:42's or 3:73's ) and the extra weigh of a 4X4 I figure I should be up around 20MPG if I do theses changes to mine, what do you think? Where did you get your parts from?

Those prices and parts are correct, they definitely helped improve the performance of my burb. Helix and Airaid are the same companies I purchased from. |
