Why you should never get rid of anything.
Because some day you will need it!!!!! Today I go to the tranny shop to pick up the newly rebuilt tranny and resealed transfer case. That went all perfectly fine. Then the shop owner and I begin to look over the axels I brought him for rebuilding. Thats when things went the wrong direction. Turns out the front axel housing is bent and the shop owner says it is not worth fixing. The front axel is a dana 44 closed knuckle for my 67 restoration project. If you new how many of these I sent to the scapyard!!! We always just threw these things away and put newer style disc fronts in them years back, and now I need one to put this truck back together stock these closed knuckle type were in 67-69 1/2 and 3/4 ton and have yet to find one around my area. I am going to try and hang on to everything from now on because some day!! JOHN

Re: Why you should never get rid of anything.
A friend of mine who never throws anything away is fond of saying "It is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it". So true!

My father in law also subscribes to the "keep it just in case" mentality.
Problem is, he has kept stuff so long, his 7500 square feet of shop space is too full to even walk through easily. Now, he can't restore old cars anymore because having too many old car parts in his way.

Re: Why you should never get rid of anything.
I use to think that way. I held on to stuff all the time. Than when I needed something I either would spend a day looking for it, never find it, buy one, than sometime later stumble across it. or...forget I had it all together , buy a new one, than stumble across what I didnt know I had.
Than 3 years ago we got flooded. lost most everthing. most of it got tossed in a big dumpster. I have to say I dont miss any of it( although sometimes the keepsakes....like family christmas ornaments kinda hurt). Since weve moved back in after the clean up I appreciate the uncluttered organized basement...shed ..& especially garage. Some times seems the money people spend storing stuff they MIGHT need somedayout weighs the value of the stuff
