Interior dye???

Ok last question (for today at least ) I said recently I was thinking of painting my interior and since I got most of it out now would be the time. Some of you here suggested not to rattle can it but to order dye from LMC. Well I went to their website and looked and all I found was something called Colorbond. Is this what everyone was referring to or do I need to look harder. Thanks.

the eastwood link has it, but it doesnt say if it is for a gun or in a rattlecan. I need cans I aint got a gun. No O'reillys round here that I know of. I'll check NAPA and Pep Boys tomorrow. Pretty sure AutoZone and Advance aint gonna have it.

i just used some "duplicolor" vinyl paint from wal mart yesterday

it worked perfect...no kiddin, and was only around $6, a friend of mine swears by this stuff...and his truck looks awesome

i used flat black....love it

i've found the trick is:
1. use alittle dish detergent, (mixed with water of course)and a toothbrush to scrub the heck out of it
2. rinse with lots of water, be sure and get all the soapy stuff off
3. wipe it well with "prep sol" or "laquer thinner"
4. get a scuff pad...scuff the crap out of it, then do it again
5. prep sol again
6. paint, (several thin coats)

paint sticks great if you use a scuff pad...if you dont, thats when it will peel, and look like crap

oh, and shake the can very often...and constantly wipe the top of the can for any paint piling up...it can drip onto your project

Man, sounds good. Did you clear over the black? Probably not since you went flat. I've really been thinking of just going with interior spraypaint but then some people turned me onto this dye. Anyway you could post pics?

I don't recommend Dupli-color as it flakes off quickly. SEM is the best I have ever used and looks factory original. You have to go to a paint supplier and it comes in spray cans. Awesome stuff!

well, i've found that the duplicolor does flake off..if you dont use the scuff pad

my buddies had it on his truck door panels, arm rests, and dash pad now since august...still looks good...no flaking off on the arm rests or door panels

i think most of the problem is in the preparation IMO

That is correct. I would say 98% of the problems are caused by poor preperation. The other 2% would be improper application. Read the article that is linked above and you will find that I stress cleaning repeatedly. The material the doorpanels are made from are always emitting oil as they age. This and any interior dressing product "must" be cleaned or it will cause the dye to lift.

Clean it, prep it, clean it and prep it again before you think about painting. If you not sure if it's cleaned enough, it's probably not....

Cool guys, I found the SEM at a local paint supply store. Kinda pricy so I hope it was worth it. Also picked up the SEM primer. Gonna start later tonight after I pick up some sandpaper.

Like N2TRUX said. Prep is 98% of the job. It must be free of any oils for the dye to stick. I just did my door panels, kick panels and seatbelt covers using SEM spray cans that I got from my neighborhood auto paint shop. The guy there also sold me Bulldog Adhesion Promoter in spray cans. He claims it really helps the dye bind to the vinyl parts.

no, i dont have any pics yet....our memory card is full ...we just had another baby a few weeks ago and the little booger took up the rest of the memory card

Thanks. No I didn't use any clear over the dye. That's how the semi-gloss black comes out. I started out with a beige interior.

Also George... My "brushed aluminum" is looking a little dated. Yours looks pretty good. Did you do anything to it?
