external to internal alternator swap

I think my old alternator is finally shot. I would like to go to an internally regulated on to get rid of the wire mess by my headlight. I did a search and did not end up with much. What do i need to do? Help please!
Where to get the alt. or what year and type of vehicle to get it off of and also what has to be done to the wiring.
Thanks

Re: external to internal alternator swap

Try M&H Electric Fabricators, Inc. at http://www.wiringharness.com/ Look for this product. Very easy to hook up and no wire cutting. (27555 ALTERNATOR CONVERSION KIT, EXTERNAL TO INTERNAL REGULATOR CONVERSION HARNESS ("SI" SERIES) $15.00) Then use the highest amp alternator you can afford. There should be plenty of 80 or 100 amp alternators available at your local parts store.

Re: external to internal alternator swap

I use the FAQ article by Toddtheodd to do my swap.

Buy an alternator for a late 70's or early 80's truck or car.
