Question 1972 Evap cannister req'd?

In taking off my core support tonight, I looked for the first time at the evap cannister. Mine was connected to the fuel tank, but the other two lines (vaccuum lines, I assume) were not present.

Do I need this thing? 1972 does not need to be emission tested in WA. If not, what should I do with the fuel tank line - just cut and cap it?

Thanks!

If you cap the tank vent line, pressure can build up in your tank. My old '67 didn't have a canister, and my garage always stunk of gasoline. I have all the hoses connected to the canister in my '72, and my garage no longer stinks. If you decide to remove the canister, you may want to just leave the line uncapped and hope no contaminants get into it.

If you leave it open, you will get gas coming out of it when the tank is full. I found out the hard way. I put on a new hose at the tank and capped it off. Mine doesnt seem to smell like gas anymore than normal!

Does anyone have a diagram or pictures on how that system should be hooked up? The front of my truck was disassembled before i got it and I would like to use the canister when i put it back together.
