Post Gas Tank Help?

I have a '72 chevy 3/4 ton. I need to put a bigger gas tank in. Does the 73-81 suburban 40 gal tank fit in the back without major work or is the 31 gal. a better option in the back. Thanks. Gotta make the trip from Iowa to North Carolina and a little 18 gal just ain't gonna cut it.

Thanks

I dont know if that big tank will fit but I have a 1970 C-20 and I have the standard tank behind the seet but it also has a tank on the side behind the cab. You can also put one on the other side and have three tanks. I dont know if this is what you are looking for.

i use to have that set up, but the guy who had it before me got rid of the two saddle tanks so i don't have them anymore, either would be ok, i just want to get rid of the tank behind the seat in the cab and add more fuel capacity.

Thanks

the 40gal is WAY too big...
the 31gal is approx 28x28x13inches deep
this tank will fit a long bed with only
a bit of work. There is also a 25gal
which is 28x28x10-1/2deep...might also
be an option if you can find one. I have
a 31gal that i wanted to use in a short
bed fleetside, but requires cutting out
the rear most crossmember and I dont want
to do that. Get the 31gal, it should go in
nicely and if done right, will look totally
stock.
